Loving Death
Rashmi Elangbam *
When I die
Lay my body in the soft, green grass
decorate my hair with all kinds of flower
All blue, black and green
When I die
dress me up in pure white
as pure as the white swan
All graceful and kind
Bury me with a cherry blossom seed
Think of me as the tree
I'll grow big and tall
I'll be your shade
in a hot summer day
I'll be your shelter
in a rainy day
And when spring comes
I'll let my pink flowers fall down on you
as a token of thank you
Don't worry about me
for when I die
I'll have the stars above me
to keep me company
I'll listen to the songs
of the creatures of the night
When I die
I'll become a part of the earth
a part of the family.
