Losing precious academic time : Time waits for no one
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: October 07 2015 -
Two months lost in the valley area or more specifically in Imphal.
The focus has now shifted to Churachandpur district.
It is now more than 30 days since schools have been closed in Churachandpur.
Time waits for no one and the loss facing the young students will be known sooner than later.
It was taking this fact into consideration that the JAC, Churachandpur gave the go ahead signal to all the schools in the district to start opening and allow students to attend classes.
However as things have turned out, the young students do not seem intent on resuming normal classes.
They may have solid reasons for issuing the call to boycott classes but does this sound rational ?
One slogan on the placard held by the young students was extremely significant.
‘Why go to school when our future remains unstable’.
Very true, but then it also stays that not going to school amounts to making the future of the young students unstable.
The slogan was definitely eye catching and it is enough to jolt the senses of everyone awake.
However it remains that by not going to school the future of the young children is imperilled.
Difficult to assume that such a catchy slogan would have come out from the tender minds of the young students and herein lies the uncomfortable thought of the young students being monitored by the adults.
The Sangai Express has been consistent in its stand that young students should not be dragged into adult affairs and it makes absolutely no sense to let the young children shoulder adult responsibilities.
It is an issue which has to be worked out with the Government of Manipur and should ideally be left to the adults.
It is the same everywhere. Robbing the innocence of the young kids.
When the ILP movement was at its peak in the valley area, it was not uncommon to see young students being made to take part in protest rallies and dharnas.
The same trend has today infected Churachandpur. This is what is hard to digest.
While students in other parts of the country are going full steam ahead with their academic pursuit, students here are being made to stage sit-in protests and take out protest rallies.
The selfishness of the adults has to go. This is not how grown ups should be treating their young.
With the Kuki Inpi, Manipur having now taken up the onus of talking with the Government, it is the hope of everyone that some sort of an agreement is worked out soon.
The contentious points may be discussed and whatever differences there are, may be talked over so that a solution can be arrived at.
As things stand today, Manipur has lost too much time and it is the young students who have had to bear the loss of time.
Time to give some thoughts to the plight of the young students, for in talking about the future, it absolutely makes no sense in robbing their right to education.
Remember the future of any group of people depends on the education of the youngsters. This is a point which no one can afford to overlook.
