Manipur Scribes knock on Governor Jagat's door

Manipur journalists today called on Governor Gurbachan Jagat to seek his intervention in the editor's arrest case and staged a protest rally here to demand justice.
A. Mobi, 55, editor of the daily, Sanaleibak, and vice-president of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, was arrested on December 29 on charges of collecting Rs 50,000 from the owner of an unnamed Imphal-based LPG agency. He was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The governor assured the delegates that he would take up the matter with chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh today.
The journalists, who have been on ceasework since December 28, will resume work tomorrow (5th Jan 2011).
