Troops on way, Naga students ease Manipur blockade :: The Telegraph

Even as the Centre announced dispatch of paramilitary forces to break the two-month-old blockade of national highways in Manipur that has crippled life and created a humanitarian crisis, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), after meeting PM Manmohan Singh on Monday, declared "temporary" suspension of the siege from 6 pm on Tuesday......
NSF said there was no dilution of its demands, including withdrawal of police commandos and revocation of Section 144 from Manipur’s Naga-inhabited areas.

The blockades on NH-39 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-53 (Imphal-Silchar) have pushed Manipur on the verge of a breakdown, with stocks of essential commodities, including baby food and life-saving drugs, drying up. Before the siege, around 300 to 400 trucks carrying essentials plied on the highways everyday.
