8-Years-old develop low-cost “face shields” for doctors and policemen in Delhi amid COVID19 cases surge.
8-Years Old Manipuri girl Licypriya Kangujam develop low-cost “face shields” for the doctors and the policemen despite COVID19 cases surge in Delhi. This design cost only Rs. 15 per piece in design and making. She called it “Liface Protective Gear” where “Li” stands for her name.
As a goodwill gesture, she is using up her piggy bank savings to make face shields for the frontline warriors battling coronavirus. Schools across the country have been shut down due to the pandemic. She used her time to make face shields for them. She converted her reading room into a production house. She is also providing these face shields to the health workers, sanitation workers etc free of cost.
"These protective face shields are designed without any 3D printer which is very expensive to afford. All the materials that have been used making these shields are simple stationary materials that we use in our everyday life. We are trying to keep it as economic as possible and relatively easy to produce. I used a better quality 250 micron acrylic sheet which is completely recyclable. These face shields will help them to protect their overall face for a longer time without much discomfort. My little sister and mom also help me in production", said Licypriya, an environmental and climate child activist.
"I used only an acrylic sheet, sponge, hot glue gun, a paper puncture and an elastic band. We can make about 30 pieces each day. I spent only about Rs. 15 to make one piece. We are donating them for free of cost. I was inspired by a 12-Years-Old Mexico friend Mr. Jorge Martinez Gracida after he posted about the making on his facebook in April", she said.

"I’m very thankful to each and every person out there who is standing to fight pandemic and making efforts to keep our country safe. I’m very glad that I could contribute a little of our knowledge for them. Our aim is to keep them safe who are risking their lives to keep us safe. I am very happy that finally I can make this contribution for our frontline corona warriors. This is a little bit an 8-Years-Old girl child can do for this country," she added.
“We even received an order from a hospital to supply 10,000 pieces. They wanted to pay her Rs. 100 per piece but she simply declined the offer as she is quite busy for her daily tight schedule for various climate events invited from across the globe. But, she will be making another 500 pieces to dispatch to her birthplace Manipur as the COVID19 cases have been surge there since last month”, her mother Bidyarani Kangujam told the media.
So far, she made more than 1000 pieces of face shields in the last 3 months and gifted them to Delhi Police, sanitary workers, and various hospitals including AIIMS, New Delhi. She also feeds stray animals during the nationwide lockdown and also regularly provides water to street plants which are left unattended due to sudden lockdown.
Licypriya is a renowned leading voice for climate change in the World from Manipur, India.
