Shrimati Irungbam Padmabati Devi is born on 1st March, 1956 at Sagolband Tera Akham Leikai.
She was the daughter of Irungbam Iboton Singh and Irungbam ongbi Ibechaobi Leima. She is a graduate.
Irungbam Padmabati had loved Khunung eshei from her childhood.
She had learned music from famous gurus like Yumnam Mangol Singh, AK Joykumar, Thopi Singh, Bhanumati Devi, Babu, Lamjao Tomba, Thangjam Nungshi Devi, N Pahari, B Jayentakumar, L Birendrakumar, and Kumar etc.
She is an approved singer as well as drama artist of All India Radio, Imphal.
Her song was broadcasted on National Programme of DDK, New Delhi in 1998.
She held the position of a ‘Top Grade’ singer in Folk Music category of All India Radio, Imphal from 2008.
Irungbam Padmabati also participated in many national Folk Music Festivals held in different cities of India.
She set up an Folk Music Institute called ‘Kangleipak Shindamshang’ to preserve the tradition of Folk Music at Langol Ningthou Leikai, Lamphel.
She had been teaching folk music to many youths. Irungbam Padmabati was honoured with ‘Best Folk Playback Singer’ in 1978 and she also bagged ‘Best Actress Award, 1996’ for the play ‘Nimai Sanyas’.
In recognition of her contribution to Manipuri Folk Music, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal conferred her the title of ‘Sangeetbhusan(Khunung Eshei)’ on 83rd Annual Conference of the Parishad.
