THE UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI is one of the oldest and premier Universities in India. It is established in 1857. Spread over four campuses with 4 post graduate centers, 67 Post Graduate Departments and 667 affiliated colleges. The Library with its Clock Tower and its Convocation Hall are architectural landmarks of the city of Mumbai recognized as world heritage buildings by the UNESCO.
The Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension [DLLE] (known earlier as Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension) established on October 12, in the Year 1978 and has been recognized as a statutory Department of the University of Mumbai since 1994 to promote meaningful and sustained rapport between the Universities and Community. The Extension and Community level activities undertaken by the Department (more than 17,500 students from 190 colleges) in the recent years with academic institutions interacting and taking activities in community level attracted more people from rural regions, bringing new ideas into the area. The primary level community encouraged are open schooling initiative, then the colleges and skill development initiatives to transform the University system into an active instrument for social change through the institutionalization of Extension as the third dimension and by ensuring that the University system is adult learner friendly and pro-lifelong learning and promoting a meaningful and sustained rapport between Universities and the community by introducing Extension and Field Outreach activities through the Post Graduate Department, Affiliated College, its Teachers and Students.
Over the years the work of the students involved in Adult Education (Lifelong Learning), Extension and Field Outreach activities have been considered for academic credit in addition to or as a part of their regular course of studies. To determining academic credits, standards, measures of weight age and evaluation process were adopted.
The College is managed by the Matushri Kanbai Lalbai & Motibai Lohana Kanyashala & Balikagruh Trust that was founded in 1906 for the up liftment of the girl child. The Trust provides boarding and lodging facilities for girl children from primary to degree level which is a comfortable & safe environment for girl children to make them confident individuals for the future. Attached to the college is a six storey Hostel building which accommodates nearly 300 girls.
The College has a regular B.Com, B.A. Degree Courses together with specialized courses like BMM, BBI, BMS, BAF and B Sc.(IT). The Degree College is an extension of the trust activities from Primary, Secondary to Degree. The educational facilities are open to all communities . Ambitions plans are envisaged to provide education to more than 3000 girls from K G to Post graduation. States of art Community halls for extracurricular activities are made available through the year.
The Department of Lifelong Learning & Extension, University of Mumbai, in association with B.L.Amlani College of Com. & Eco,; M.R. Nathwani College of Arts, affiliated to the University of Mumbai and an extension centre of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension organized "International Conference on Extension Education and Rural Communities " on 06th-7th April, 2013.
This Two-day International conference ICERC-2013 aims to provide an opportunity to the academic world to share their knowledge and expertise in the field of Extension Education, Community Learning and Rural Development to inspire high quality research work to develop state-of-the-art educational technologies; and to promote intellectual discourse among the conference. Participants from overseas and local universities or higher education institutions are expected to attend this conference.
ICERC-2013 will include sessions on all about the Extension Education process in Communities and Rural Development system and their roles, working at different regions. This will facilitate a global exchange of ideas and the identifications and shaping of future trends and directions in the field of Community Development, Rural Development and Extension Education process in Communities.

CALL FOR PAPERS:
Scholastic authors are invited to submit electronically, with a maximum of 8 A4 - sized pages reporting original work, in all areas as per the scope of the conference. The conference proceedings will be published (ISBN) by the Organizers and it will be available in print format.
All the papers received will be carefully reviewed by experts in their fields and the accepted papers will form a part of the conference proceedings which will be published in the ISSN journal of the Department.
IMPORTANT DATES:
An abstract of the paper in not more than 300 words on any of the above sub themes can be mailed to [email protected] on or before 23/02/2013. The complete research paper has to be submitted by 22/03/2013.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE:
English will be the Official Language of the Conference. Translation or Interpretation facility will not be available.
ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation facility information will be provided on advance request and payment to be made directly to the Hotel. Tariff will be displayed on the conference website www.mudlle.ac.in
