RESEARCH, MUMBAI (A Deemed University) An Advanced Research Institute Established by the Reserve Bank of M.Sc. in Economics and M.Phil./Ph.D. in Development Studies: 2003-2004 Indira Gandhi Institute of Development
Research (IGIDR) invites applications for admission to the following
programmes: 1. M. Sc. in Economics (a new two-year programme commencing from August, 2003): Eligibility: The minimum qualification for admission is one of the following degrees or their equivalents:B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/ B.Com./B.Stat./B.Sc
(Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with
a minimum mark of 55% for Economics Bachelors and 60% for all others.
All students must have taken mathematics at least at the higher secondary
level. The costs include
tuition fee of Rs. 4000 per semester and room
rent of Rs. 200 per month apart from food
and electricity. A few stipends
may be available to deserving students. 2.
M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme
in Development Studies: which has an interdisciplinary
perspective with major emphasis on Economics. The M.Phil. Programme is of two years
duration and the Ph.D. programme can be completed
in four years. The degrees are awarded on the basis of successful completion
of a course work and dissertation. Only those candidates who pass a
set of Comprehensive Examinations in the course work stage will be eligible
for Ph.D. registration. The session will commence in August,
2003. Eligibility: The minimum qualifications for admission to M.Phil./Ph.D. Programme is one of
the following degrees: M.A./M.Sc in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science
or Operations Research)/M.B.A./ M.Tech./ M.E./B.Tech./B.E. with a minimum mark of 55% for Economics graduates
and 60% for others. All the students must have taken Mathematics at
least at the higher secondary level. Stipend:
The students receive a monthly
stipend, which at present is Rs.8000 in the first two years of the
study and after Ph.D. registration Rs.9000 from the third year for a
further period of two to three years, subject to fulfillment of the
terms and conditions of the Programme. The costs
include tuition fee of Rs.4000 per semester and room rent, which is
8% of the fellowship amount per month, apart from food and electricity.

examinations on or before
