India likely to have strategic ties with ASEAN

In what could deliver a big boost, India-ASEAN ties are likely to be elevated to a strategic partnership level, even as India, Myanmar and Thailand are expected to reiterate their commitment to completion of the Trilateral Highway Project and its extension to neighbouring South East Asian countries.
With less than 24 hours to go for ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit that gets under way here on Thursday, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh held a high-level stock taking meeting, when the arrangements for the Summit was reviewed. The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister Salman Khursid, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Minister of State in PMO Narayan Swamy.
