India-Myanmar committee deliberates on border trade
Seven Sisters Post | David Mayum | Moreh (Nov 10):
For the first time, a highlevel meeting of the India-Myanmar Border Trade Committee held at Moreh on Friday, Manipur discussed various issues on border trade and formed a sub-committee so that such meetings in future could be convened more judiciously.
The meeting later unanimously agreed to open one branch of the United Bank of India in Rangoon within this month. The Indian side of the sub-committee will be headed by Manipur director of trade as co-chair and representative of customs, banks, local Chamber of Commerce and ADM Moreh as members. For Myanmar, the subcommittee will be headed by director of border trade, Tamu, as co-chair and representatives of customs, banks, immigration, Chambers of Commerce, internal revenue department and local administration as members.
