In between now and May 23 : Awaiting results
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: April 23 2019 -
As observed in an earlier commentary here, the focus of the people will be on the Lok Sabha elections with the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency voting on April 18.
It is another matter that repoll has been lined up in 12 Polling Stations on April 24, but the die has been cast and people’s attention will be drawn towards the just held Lok Sabha elections.
Not surprising for Lok Sabha election comes once in five years and what has added that bit of extra zing to the polls is the presence of two strong camps, one led by the BJP and the other by the Congress.
This is not to say that there will be no other events in between now and May 23, for one can expect the Shirui Lily Festival to descend on the people anytime soon.
On the more serious side there will be the results of the Class X exams conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and the Class XII exams conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur.
Annual affairs the two are, but this does not rob the importance of these examinations for in many ways these two examinations will be the stepping stones towards the future for thousands of students.
This is not to say academics is the be all and end all for all students, but it will have a big say on how the future of the young students are moulded at these two stages.
And as stated and repeated every year, the time has come for all to take a step backward and seriously study the question of whether the right ambience has been created for the young students to concentrate on their studies and promote their personalities.
How the students have done in these two examinations will only be known when the results are declared, but it would do good for all to remember that in 2014, the year that the last Lok Sabha election was held, the pass percentage in the HSLC examination saw a drop to 68 from the high of 72.27 seen in the 2013 HSLC examinations.
This is not to say that the same script will be repeated, but everyone needs to keep in mind that the pass percentage in the 2018 HSLC examination was 73.18, the best showing after the 2013 performance dished out by the young students.
This is where it is hoped and prayed that parents, guardians, teachers, the schools and the students themselves took extra care to ensure that the pass percentage does not take a sharp dip like it did in 2014, when the last Lok Sabha election was held.
This word of caution has been sounded to ensure that the history of five years back is not repeated.
It would be a set back if the pass percentage is to see a sharp dip from the high of 73.18 witnessed last year.
This record should not have blown over the head of the students and all those who have a stake in the HSLC examination, the results of which may be declared anytime next month.
The same too should apply to the Class XII examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur.
The vote is over and now is the time for the students to chart out what they want to do after their Class X and Class XII.
