In Memory of a Friend
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Life is endless
For the living and the dead
Are inextricably intertwined.
At the end of the day,
The dead will still have a life
To be lived to the extent possible.
Oh, the intensity of life!
One thinks about
This world and the next.
Sometimes the latter is more real
Than this world
And one pines for the real one.
What an old misery!
There are moments
When one would like to talk to the dead
As if all the talks they had in life
Was not sufficient or was found wanting.
The brevity of human life stands out
And the infinite desire
Burns with embarrassment
When the bell ultimately tolls.
The sun shines all day.
He works during the day
And sleeps at night;
He does not take a break
And present us a different world.
The predicament of modern man!
He cannot enjoy
The benefits and privileges of a bath
In the warm spring sunshine
For the sun does not shine
In his dull sky.
God that subsists in my thought
And a matter of spiritual experience!
God that does not exist
From the evidence of my senses!
For me
Gods are the people who live upstairs.
Let me live in a godless world
Rather than live with god.
We are not inhabitants of the same place.
I know a grieving mother:
She is widowed young.
When her husband dies,
Mentally, she is a total wreck.
When her only daughter dies
Not long after the father
Her world is turned upside down.
She feels
Nothing can make up
For the loss of her husband and only child.
She is never the same person again.
I know a grieving mother
Who needs mothering
And who does not look at the sky
When the bright moon
And the twinkling stars shine all night.
(Dedicated to K. Kalanjoy who was like a brother to me and who died last week.)
