Imphal Oh! Imphal
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
In the land of gods and goddesses
A husband has been punished
For a crime he has not committed.
His crime:
Murder of his wife.
A heinous crime!
The cowardly act of murder of a wife!
He has spent six months in jail
And after he has been released
His wife, allegedly murdered, is found
Living with a man
And the two have a baby girl
Born out of wedlock.
Who will answer questions
Likely to be asked by the baby girl
When it grows up?
Should I say
That’s life.
Modern life is difficult to define;
It is not sharply defined
Like the green hills against the blue sky.
I wish it were not true
It were not true.
What an absurd idea!
