Illusion
K. Radhakumar *
In my naughty dream
I see a maiden
Walking slowly before me
To the rhythm of many births and deaths.
Hers is no theatrical gesture
And I feel I have met her before.
Her back!
Oh, her back is symmetrical and inviting
And my impotent heart feels sexually excited.
The moment I see her
I realize my dream is no longer a nightmare.
I do not know
If I walk around in a dream all day;
I certainly do not know what's what
And also who's who here.
Dreams and waking hours
Life and death
Apparition and my own flesh and blood
I do not know
I do not know.
Am I sleeping?
The maiden vanishes without a trace
Like snow melting
When the sunshine kisses the white flakes.
The maiden gives a coy smile
At the intimate touch of the gentle breeze
And dies a quick death.
What a wonder!
The maiden is lost in the blink of an eye
And then appears in the form of an inanimate being.
I cannot make out the difference between the two
And I wake up before my usual time
When the clock chimes three.
