Three Days Regional Teachers Training Programme on INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW
Date : 12 - 14 December 2007
Venue: University GUEST HOUSE, NEHU Campus, Mawlai, Shillong

Introduction: This course, jointly presented by the Dept. Of Political Science,North Eastern Hill University,Shillong and the Regional Delegation of the International Committee for the Red Cross for South Asia ,New Delhi, deals with principles of humanitarian law essential to good governance.

The course covers issues relating to:

The historical development of International Humanitarian Law,
Types of conflicts,
Geneva and Hague Law, Prisoner of war and occupations,
Humanitarian assistance
Customary International Law,
War crimes and the repression thereof

ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation on twin sharing basis will be provided to outside participants from Shillong in the guesthouse of the university. Accommodation includes bed and breakfast, Lunch and Dinner during the course.

TRANSPORT: Participants will be reimbursed their travel expenses from their place of residence to Shillong and return on production of their journey tickets.

Closing date for applications: Applications should be submitted at least one week prior to the starting date of the course. Admission will be on a competitive basis and the admission criteria will include working experience, academic qualifications and the levels of commitment and professionalism displayed through past experience.

Applications from teachers from entire North Eastern region and Assam ,teaching Political Science, International Relations, Defence studies, Law, International Law and persons belonging to disadvantaged groups and women are welcome.
