Hoping for a better New Year 2022
- The People's Chronicle Editorial :: January 01, 2022 -
LIKE in the past, everybody would be hoping that advent of the New Year will sustain the euphoria over the semblance of social tranquillity and see the state marching towards development in the real sense of the term. Despite curbs on various activities proclaimed by the government, there is no doubt that the youngsters would continue to gather and indulge in merriment events while for the grown-ups and working class people seeing an end to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has not only been creating distressing situation to all but hampering normal chores for most part of the year 2021, would obviously top the wish-list.
For the younger lot, the government curbs wouldn't be much of a deterrent for they are certain to gather at the place of merriment before the night curfew comes into force and make movement after daybreak.
The official confirmation that only one case of the contagious Omicron variant has been detected so far in the state would also embolden many to ignore the safety protocols as it would be unthinkable that New Year's Eve and New Year parties would be celebrated by keeping physical distance in adherence of the Covid-19 SOPs.
Thus, while social-ethnic tension on account of the multiple unsolved issues will continue to beset the state in the coming years as well, the uncertainty over whether or not the Omicron variant of Covid-19 would spread uncontrollably will be a cause of concern to both the government and the general population as outbreak of the pandemic since early part of 2020 has been forcing everyone to think of safely sailing past one of the worst situations mankind had ever encountered.
Nevertheless, everybody would be wishing that the New Year 2022 would either bring an end to the pandemic or the virus does not deepen the health crisis which has been hitting hard the daily wagers for whom restriction on livelihood activities is nothing less than denial of right to life.
Despite possibility of return of the distressful situation witnessed in the last two years considering the fact that the country is already seeing sharp rise in the number of new Covid-19 positive cases, there is always something about every New Year that can be inspirational.
While it's the perfect time to make necessary and beneficial changes, a new calendar can also be just as powerful a motivating force as a new job, a new relationship, and daringly go for whatever one was scared of doing in the year just gone by.
There is general consensus that a New Year can be a good time to break from harmful patterns of the past, release grudges and forgive and move on with life.
As such apart from the lingering threat of the pandemic's third wave, the masses would be looking forward to the year 2022 to live in an environment of social harmony, better healthcare facilities, developmental activities diluting political showdowns over various issues pending solution, improvement in public amenity facilities and help the citizens believe that the common issues get tackled before they get out of hand.
As a new beginning is always valuable, everybody would be keen to welcome the New Year, believe that it will bring changes - no matter even if they are challenging and uncomfortable, and be resilient enough to face them head on rather than cling on to the comforts of past memories.
