- Paper by KPMG & Ficci says region may become a hub of trade and commerce in 7 years
The Telegraph | Andrew W. Lyngdoh | Shillong, Nov. 17:
When India completes 75 years of independence in 2022, it could be possible to drive to Bangkok from Guwahati in about 48 hours. This forecast and many more positive predictions have been made in Emerging North-East India: Economically and Socially Inclusive Development Strategies - a knowledge paper brought out by KPMG and Ficci (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry).
"It is expected that by 2021-22, the region will emerge as one of the fastest-growing regions of the country and will contribute substantially to the national GDP," the document, in a page on India at 75: Projections for the North-East, stated. It also stated that the region might become a hub of connectivity, trade and commerce for the Southeast Asian sub-region.
