WITH TWIN FINAL MATCH THE GOVERNOR’S CUP INVITATION POLO TOURNAMENT 2017 CONCLUDED
The 27th Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament, 2017 and 16th Governor’s Cup Womens’ Polo Tournament, 2017 organise by Manipur horse Riding and polo Association which began on 19th March 2017 was concluded today at the oldest living polo ground Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
In today’s final matches of the 27th Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament, 2017 Ibudhou Thangjing Polo Club defeated the Manipur Police Sports Club – B scoring 5 – 4 while in the 16th Governor’s Cup Womens’ Polo Tournament, 2017 the Imphal Riding Club won the match by defeating K & MM Riding School by 4 – 0.
The winning 4 goals of the Imphal Riding Club was scored by Kh. Deventy Devi and Kh. Habe scoring 2 goals in the first chukker while the other 2 goals were added to their account by A. Romabati Devi in the second chukker with the last goal from Kh. Habe in the third chukker.

In a remarkable match, the 27th Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament, 2017 was triumph by Ibudhou Thangjing Polo Club by opening their account with two goals in the first chukker by the team captain M. Manihar Singh and P. Ojit Singh. The 2nd and 3rd goal of the team was scored by L. Kokeshwar Singh and P. Ojit Singh making the game draw. The final and the judging goal of this excited tournament, was scored by M. Manihar Singh in the last fourth chukker of the match against the Manipur Police Sports Club – B. Mentioned may be made that the tournament was participated by 10 teams.
Speaking as a Chief Guest, Minister (CAF&PD/Rev/Weight & Measures) Shri Karam Shyam said, his government believes in action and thus to be able to preserve and protect the soul of the game Polo – Pony, he urged the people to render their support and guidance in carrying out the work and plan to be supplemented and carried out by the Government in creating the rearing places for the Pony at Khundrakpam and Heingang.

Thanking the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association for organising such tournaments, Minister (IFCD/YAS) Shri Letpao Haokip said it was his first day as a Sports Minister to attend such a grand function of Games and Sports. He further added that it was really heart warming to know that Polo and Sagol Kangjei has become very popular in the modern world because of the sincere and relentless efforts of MHRPA and dedicated Polo players of the state as well as the players from national and international fraternity.
As part of the closing function of the 27th Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament, 2017 and 16th Governor’s Cup Womens’ Polo Tournament, 2017 trophies, citations and cheques was awarded to the winners by the dignitaries.
