Four-day fiesta to showcase Northeast culture at Kolkata - Sept 22 till 25 2011
- North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) -
The Telegraph | Rupamudra Kataki | Kolkata, Sept 21:
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations and North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) have lined up a four-day fiesta of Northeast dance and music at Shilpgram auditorium from Thursday.
The Music and Dance Festival of Northeast will showcase the Ga-Laam from Manipur to folk dances from Nepal along with Assam’s most popular Bihu and Xattriya.
Other programmes include Ga-Laam of the Zeliangrong community. “This is a very interesting dance form of the Naga community (Zeliangrong). This dance form reflects the movement of a crab as is evident from the name — ga means crab and laam means dance. This dance form is performed during post-harvest celebrations,” said Som Kamei, director of NEZCC. Ga-Laam will be performed by a troupe from Manipur.
