Fireworks, torches given to tackle 'feline' menace
Times of India | TNN | Sep 23, 2012, 11.26PM IST
Khordrak villagers, who have been terrorized by a feline, have been provided with torchlight sets and crackers by the Manipur forest department, a move initiated after recovery of fresh pug marks of feline in the village, located close to Keibul Lamjao National Park in Bishnupur district.
Incidentally, Keibul Lamjao is the biggest floating park in the world and home to rear brow antlered deer, locally known as Sangai. The park also adjoins Loktak lake. Forest officials ruled out the possibility of the feline having entered the park because it is surrounded by a water body and phumdis (floating biomass). Nevertheless, extra measures have been taken to safeguard the endangered deer species.
