Film to tell eviction tales
The Telegraph | Imphal, Oct. 1:
People before Profit, made by New York-based NGO Witness in association with Goa-based NGO Video Volunteers to mark the day in Imphal. The 11-minute film documents the plights and uncertain future of victims of forced evictions by either private companies backed by local authorities or the government itself in the name of development.
The film uses eviction cases in 11 countries, including India, US, Cambodia, Russia, Brazil, Egypt, Nigeria and Kenya. The film also shows the plight of nearly 100 people, who were evicted from Yaipha Leikai in Imphal West two years back.
