Felicitation Programme for Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray by Naga Students’ Union, Delhi
A felicitation programme was organized by Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) on behalf of all the Naga communities in Delhi in honour of Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray on 20th August 2016 at Nagaland House, New Delhi. Rev. Dr. Kadimna Gangmei, Pastor, Gospel of Grace Church, Delhi invocated the opening prayer.
The President of NSUD Mr. Phungshok Khongreiwoshi welcomes the gathering and expressed his gratitude on behalf of Nagas in Delhi for the utmost and highest service of Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray towards the cause of the Nagas and to the on-going Indo-Naga Peace Talks. The program was organized with the idea of welcoming back Mr. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray into the fold of the Naga freedom movement.
The Naga People’s Movement of Human Rights (NPMHR), All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) expressed their gratitude towards Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray for his selfless service and dedication to the cause of the Nagas. The release was understood as the recognition of the voice of the Naga public through the Naga civil societies like Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers’ Association, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Students Union Delhi (NSUD), Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and Naga Churches.
The released has renewed hope and instilled peace in the minds of the Naga people. The student organisations and civil societies clearly understands the issue as a National issue and assured to fully support and work hard for the same. The student leaders not just see Mr. Shimray as political leaders but as also as a deeply rooted religious person who is visible from his service even in Tihar Jail as Founder and Director of Prison Mission, and as Overseer of all Churches in Tihar Jail.
Lieut. Gen. Anthony Ningkhan Shimray delivered his ‘Thanks-Giving Speech’ to all the civil societies who have been supporting him through protests, seminars, talks, candle light vigil, prayers in churches etc. He also made a special mention of the role of NPMHR in handling his case. However, he equally appreciates the efforts of all the Naga people in releasing him.
He said, “His loves for the Nation is no greater than anyone”. Though beaten, chained, tortured and separated from his families and dear ones, he praised God for bringing light during the darkest moments of his life. As a servant of Nation, he believes in the unity of the Nagas with Christ as the foundation. To him, forgiveness and and unity through reconciliation is the only way to move forward.
He urgently appeals to all the youth and younger generations that the future belongs to the youth and the youth must be able to stand united and carry forward the agenda of Naga National building. He promised to remain faithful to the cause of the Naga solution. He spoke highly of the hard works and dedication of Late Mr. Isak Chishi Swu and Mr. Th. Muivah.
He also thanked the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and R.N Ravi for their relentless and sincere efforts for his release.
The General Secretary of NSUD, Mr. Chawangbo Chalunmai expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone for joining the celebration of this ‘Glorious Day’ and also urges for ‘One Hope, One Voice and One Goal’ to the Nagas. Mr. Ruokuovilie Sachii, Asst. Pastor, Naga Christian Fellowship, Delhi blessed the gathering with his benedictory prayer.
