"It is said that if you want a conflict to last forever take up issues on Religion and Land"
Seeing the present dreadful situation in Manipur its within everybody's imagination that somewhere our
Eema Manipur must be saying "Eemadi Khwang Youredo"
As though we dont have enough problems already we are topping up our overwhelmingly difficult problems with
more and more complicated problems day by day, the latest of which being these newfound but extremely dangerous conflicts based on
religious hatred and religious one upmanship.
Where people are still confused on whether they are surviving, existing or living, with an overwhelming
majority struggling to even meet the most basic amenities like food, clothing and shelter, are we insane
to start adding these malignant and poisonous conflict based on religion!!
Its a very common experience seen and heard over and over again how Religious hatred can make the most
timid of all people, kill the closest of friends given the right provocation, and still feel proud about it
without a slightest element of guilt feeling that he is doing it just to protect his religion,
Once the lines are crossed, the reconciliation is enevitably almost impossible! Can we afford those situation in such a
closely knit society like ours?
We have to remind ourseleves that being a good Christian, a Hindu or a Muslim does not necessarily
guarantee a place in heaven as widely misconceeived, If they we cant answer to our motherland Manipur, its
almost certain that we will land up in hell!!
It is indeed our duty of utmost priority to maintain the age old tradition of brotherhood,
prioritizing our problems of immediate attention and burying the differences in religion
for good! Otherwise it is not very difficult to imagine how we will end up!
In our quest to destroy our enemies it seems we are losing our sense of orientation and direction
and slowly but incessantly turning ourselves against our own people!
Lets not forget We are already an endangered species, though the census indicates otherwise,
I wonder how many of us are still Manipuri in true sense. Some choose not to be a Manipuri by virtue of
staying abroad but most, though living in Manipur choose not to be one by staying indifferent to the
problems of Manipur,.
Its not enough just enough to be born in Manipur to be a Manipuri, If we cant think and feel for Manipur we dont qualify
to be Manipuris!
I sometimes ask myself if there is some kind of curse on the under developed and the developing countries to
kill one another , be it in the name of difference in principles, philosophies or in the name of cleansing the
society. But whenever they do, the utter lack of accountability and transperancy almost always surface,
and most of the them end up doing more harm than good! Giving the developed countries every chance
to pound on their flesh and blood!
Does "revolution" merely mean an upheaval or a sanguinary strife-? - is there any place in it for
individual vendetta. Is it just the cult of the Kalashnikovs the M16s and the RDXs?
Revolution necessarilty implies the programme of systematic reconstruction of society on a new and better basis...
Its not just an episodic reaction to a temporary threat but a sustained process towards attainment of our long term goals"
The capital or peripheral punishments meted out to our fellow beings are part and parcel of
any society but are they really the only options we have, and how beneficial they have been to the society
at large, specially the poor and the undrpriviledged sections of the society.
Why cant we ever though about a constructive approach to those punishments.....
A form of "COMMUNITY SERVICE" as another kind of punishment instead of those
punishments... a way that can salvage and soothe the bruised sentiments of our own blood brothers..
and still do something good for the society!
We can never overestimate the grit and tenacity of the Japanese. On how they grew up to such super powers
after being totally destroyed by the Americans, how they channelised their intenese feeling of
hatred and vengeance for the Americans to their benefit by becoming world leaders.....
We have much to learn and still have a long long way to go !
Lets wake up before its too late to salvage any amount of sanity and goodwill in our society,
Lets give at least an ear to "EEMagi wake up call!
Prayers
