Dibrugarh to host Upper Assam’s first Chavang Kut on Nov 4
Seven Sisters Post | Ripunjoy Das | Dibrugarh (Oct 30):
For the first time in Upper Assam, the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group will be centrally celebrating their post harvest festival called Chavang Kut in Dibrugarh on November 4, with the theme “Kut- A Symbol of our Past Unity and a Reminder of our Future Hope”.
The term “Chavang” means autumn and “Kut” means festival. This age-old traditional post-harvest festival is celebrated by all the kindred factions of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group. They are cognate groups known by different names in different places of their settlement – “Chins” in Chin Hills of Myanmar, “Mizos” in Mizoram and “Kukis” in the states of Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Tripura and those inhabiting in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
