Declare April 17 North East Day, says CPI

Karnataka chief minister D. Sadananda Gowda has promised to consider a proposal for observing April 17, the day Manipuri student Richard Loitam died, as Northeast Day in Bangalore every year, Manipur CPI state secretary Moirangthem Nara Singh today said here.
Talking to reporters today, Nara Singh said Gowda made this promise when the former met him in Bangalore on May 7. Singh had visited Bangalore following directives from central CPI leaders to press for justice in the Richard case.
Gowda also accepted a suggestion to meet students from the Northeast, to discuss their problems while staying in the state. “The chief minister promised me to meet student leaders and representatives very soon,” he said.
