Ksh. Suresh Singh, Secretary of the Union deeply concerned more on the state of shortage of drinking Water Supply in the town. The committee members reported that owing to depletion of water in the reservoirs, the source of drinking water for Kakching town had been worsen from last many years. With the present water storage in the reservoirs, the unfinished works of the pipeline system crossing over the Sekmai River at different localities, many other incomplete constructions under the scheme, it would not be possible to provide sufficient drinking water for another next couple of months and years. The people of town have been struggling for unavailability of water since last 15 days. Therefore, poor people had been more affected by the shortage of tap water. Though the water crises had been aggravated, none of the concerned department arranged to supply water to residents through tankers or any other means.
However, the state Govt. under the Scheme of “Augmentation of Kakching Water Supply” sanctioned Rs. 1327.00 lakhs to address the drinking crises. According to the projects the installation of pipelines for providing water to houses, construction for reservoirs would had been completed at the earliest. The said problem would not be permanently resolved until the incomplete project was completed. But, the project that had been undertaken at a cost of Rs. 1327.00 lakhs was so slow and it seemed never ending journey. The meeting unanimously resolved to submit memorandums to higher authorities to solve the problem before long.
Consumers Welfare Union Kakching is a non-profitable and voluntary initiative of likeminded social workers and public leaders to help the consumers of LPG, Electricity and Water Supply and to reduce and prevent the consumers’ grievances.
