Conference at USTM: South East Asian Commerce

The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), in association
with Green School, Bali – Indonesia, is going to organize an international
conference themed, “RAISE WITH THE EAST : Vistas of Indian co-operation
with South-East Asian Commerce, Culture, Capacity and Connectivity”, on
February 26th and 27th, 2016. The conference is an attempt to engage with
academics and researchers from South-East Asian nations to explore beyond
India’s Act East Policy, as envisaged by the government. The conference
expects to provide a platform for academicians and researchers to reflect
upon and explore opportunities for mutual co-operation, both at the
individual as well as institutional level. The conference would also
further the Indo-ASEAN connect in terms of Culture, Commerce and Capacity.
This conference is a result of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that USTM
has established with Green School, Bali in August, 2015.
The conference would see participation of scholars from academic
institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (JNU), M.S.
University, Baroda, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Universitas NgurahRai –
Bali, Yayasan KulKul – Bali, Green School - Bali and Tezpur University. The
inaugural address will be given by Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar (Former
Ambassador of India to Kazakhstan, Sweden and Latvia), in the inaugural
session at Hotel Rajdhani Regency on 26th February, 2016 (7.30pm). The
session will also witness special address by Thedoor Bakker (Foreign
Counsel at ABNR Attorney at Law) and Christopher Saye (Founder and MD, Marc
Whittaker).
The technical sessions on the sub themes – Culture & Connectivity, Commerce
& Connectivity and Capacity & Connectivity will be held at the Conference
Hall of USTM, Meghalaya on 27th February, 2016 (9.00 AM onwards). The
keynote speakers respectively are Prof Gautam Kr Jha (JNU), Prof K
Pushpanadham (M.S.U) and Mr M. K. Das (Director, IIE). Keynote addresses
will be followed by a panel discussion to be chaired by Ambassador Ashok
Sajjanhar, Prof Nilima Bhagawati and Dr. R.M. Pant (Director, NIRD)
respectively.
