September 19th, 2020
Condemnation on brutal rape of a 3 and half year old girl at a village near Moreh town under TengnoupalDistrict, Manipur Manipur on 15 September 2020 at around 5.30 pm.
Women Action for Development (WAD) strongly condemned the rape/sexual assault of a minor girl of 3 and half years old at a village in Moreh. WAD received the information from the reliable sources and local newspapers that a very minor girl of 3 and half year old was terribly raped by a juvenile from the same locality.
The incident took place on September 15th at around 5.30 pm and reported to Moreh PHC at around 6.30pm with serious bleeding. The PHC Moreh referred the minor girl to RIMS at midnight of the same day after providing normal medication.
The doctor reported the police about the incident and FIR has been lodged by the Moreh Police station bearing (FIR No 72(9)2020 MRH-PS U/S 6 POCSO Act. The accused is still at large. It is informed that the adoptive mother refused to disclose the details of the rapist.
WAD also received information that the case has been settled with Rs. 3.50 lakh under customary Law. If this is true, then it is very very unfortunate for the future generation of Manipur.
We learned that there are many cases of such heinous crime committed against women and children which are settled with a pig, Buffalo etc and failed to be reported specially from the Hill Districts.
WAD further in strongest term asked the family, community and village khullakpa/Chiefs to take initiative to handover the rapist to police without delayed.
We would like to ask the family members, locality, village elders and others who are supporting the rapist to immediately stop threatening the officials and voluntary workers and child activist to conceal the case.
WAD with serious concern appeal to all the civil society organizations, Tribe Unions, student bodies , religious Institutions in Moreh to strongly condemn such act of brutality's to the minor girl child, request not to support such an act and request to extend possible support to police to arrest the rapist.
WAD appeal to the concern Police station to arrest the rapist and frame the charge sheet without delayed to meed the end of Justice.
