Condemnation against the gang rape
5th September 2020
Condemnation against the brutal gang rape and murder of a minor girl.
Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) deeply morn the demise of rape survivor on the 3rd of September, 2020 at RIMS after she was brutally gang raped and murdered by a group of young people on the night of 1st September, 2020.
We are deeply shocked to witness large number of peoples, JAC, other organisations including Chief Minister of Manipur and the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights for disclosing the identity of a minor girl which is in violation of Section 23 of POCSO Act, 2012 and Section 228A of IPC.
We cannot deny the fact that Supreme Court ruled against any disclosure and barred it even in cases where the rape victim may have died or is of unsound mind and the parents have consented to such disclosure.
In connection with the matter, YFPHR have submitted written complaint to the Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur and Manipur Human Rights Commission to take up Suo Motto against those violating the legal provisions.
As all the accused person has been arrested, we would like to lay down few area of urgent attention:
1. Urge the department of Police to assign the matter for investigation by Police Officer not below the rank of Superintendent of Police.
2. Urge to Charge Sheet the matter within 2 months.
3. Urge all the politicians not to intervene into the investigation process of the police.
4. Urge to all the general public to kindly stop mentioning the name of the victim and also to inform all the masses that in the “Nirbhaya Gang Rape” case, Nirbhaya was not the name of the Victim Girl.
