Concrete action must follow 'CM Da Haisi'
- The People's Chronicle Editorial :: September 21, 2022 -
LAUNCH of the 'CM Da Haisi' web portal on Monday rings out the message that the N Biren government has firmly set sight on curbing corruption and promoting unblemished administrations.
As the web portal has been specifically developed to receive complaints and grievances from cross section of the society, it is expected that the platform would inspire the public to lodge complaints and expose the rogue elements within the establishment without any inhibition or fear of reprisals from the accused individuals.
The portal aims to encourage the people to be a part of the government's initiative to govern smoothly and strengthen the anti-graft mechanism through active engagement of officials/personnel entrusted to the task of operating the Public Grievances Redressal and Anti-Corruption Cell.
Launch of the platform's earlier version in the later part of year 2021 also facilitated anybody to directly call up the chief minister to air their problems and suggestions through a helpline number.
Such an initiative was unheard of in the past for successive chief ministers were seen as inaccessible unless one follows the formalities of seeking prior appointment and hope for affirmative response from the CM's office secretariat to meet the head of the state.
For a change, every citizen of the state may now forward their genuine grievances and petition to the CM in case there is any instance of administrative inefficiency and disservice.
No doubt, antagonists would try to belittle activation of the platform as a mere political stunt for airing one's opinion is one of the rights guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
Nevertheless, the fresh bid by chief minister N Biren to personally peruse grievances of the citizens suggests that the government is keen to find solution to genuine issues besetting the people.
Apart from CM Biren conceding that gaining the trust and confidence of the public is imperative for running a government and implementing development works, launch of the portal will definitely compel the administrative heads of government institutions to accord seriousness to their assigned duties and dispense them dedicatedly and with transparency.
It is also commendable that the CM has acknowledged corruption as the main stumbling block to development of the state and hopefully take prompt action against corrupt elements himself or empower the anti-graft units to root out corruption from public offices so as to enhance public service delivery in the state.
As corruption affects everybody and threatens sustainable economic development, ethical values and justice there is no reason to be lenient against anybody found abetting corruption, which is one of the factors for creating dissent in the society and endangering the rule of law.
There are other issues pending solutions but effective curbing of corruption should be the top priority for the government for ignoring seriousness of the menace of corruption will only undermine the institutions and values of democracy.
In case the government succeeds in ending institutional corruption then it is but natural that good governance will prevail and create an environment where corruption would automatically struggle to flourish.
However, failure to punish the corrupt ones will only lead to furious outcries by concerned stakeholders seeking accountability from the government authorities.
