Centre allocates Rs 48 cr for handicrafts in NE

The Centre has allocated a sum of Rs 48 crore for the development of handicraft in the Northeast in this financial year with new schemes in the 12th plan period.
“For the Northeast, we want to rope in designers who want to take up this craft in a professional way so that new technologies can be brought in the region’s market to create new designs by blending tradition with modernity. The Centre has already sanctioned Rs 30 crore for development projects of handicrafts in the region,” said SS Gupta, development commissioner (handicrafts), ministry of textiles, while talking to Seven Sisters Post.
