Celebrated Manipuri filmmaker wants Assam to organise global fest
Seven Sisters Post | Abdul Gani | Guwahati (Dec 11):
Padma Shri award winning Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma appealed to Assam government to help organise world-class film festivals in the state to inspire budding filmmakers from the region.
“In Northeast, we don’t have any good quality film festival for which the filmmakers from the region have to suffer a lot. On many occasions, the filmmakers from the region, including me, have felt neglected at national film festivals apart from the difficulties that one has to face to get selected for these events. So, Guwahati being the main city of the region, can take the lead,” said the veteran director whose Leipaklei was screened at the festival as the inaugural film.
