CM Neiphiu Rio keeping fingers crossed on Naga peace process
Times of India | Nirmalya Banerjee | TNN | Nov 17, 2012, 04.32 AM IST
The Nagaland government is keeping its fingers crossed on the possibility of a breakthrough in the Naga peace talks. "The ball is now in the court of Delhi," Nagaland chief minister Neiphieu Rio said in Kolkata on Friday. Rio described himself as a "facilitator" in the process of talks.
The question of integration of all Naga-inhabited areas continued to be an imponderable one, but Rio was hopeful that a way out would be found this time. "The desire of the Nagas to live together under one umbrella is a legitimate one. Not only the undergrounds, overground civilians also want that." But the Centre's declaration that "the contours of the existing states would not be disturbed" had limited the options. "Any proposal that can bring the Naga people together is welcome, even if it is emotional, social and cultural integration."
