Book release and awareness program on Rights and Entitlements at Chandel

Food Commission member release Manipuri translation in roman script of High Court judgment on right to food in the PIL filed by Human Rights Alert (HRA) at Khoibu Community Hall, Chandel District today. The roman script version of the translation is prepared to ensure that the population in the hill who cannot read the Bengali script could read the judgment and befit from the same.

The book release was followed by a one-day awareness programme on Rights and Entitlements.

The programme, which was attended by the village chiefs and community based organisations of the adjoining villages, was jointly organised by Council of Auxiliary Social Action (CASA) and Weaker Section Development Council (WSDC), Chandel.

Shri Th. Saimon Singh, Judicial Member of State Food Commission of Manipur who graced the programme as Chief Guest. Shri Babloo Loitongbam, Executive Director, Human Rights Alert, Shri T. Nando, Protection Committee on Public Distribution System, Shri N. Shubashchandra Singh, Advocate and Shri Okram Kiranjit Singh, Advocate were also attended as Presidium members of the programme.

Delivering the keynote address, Ms. K Shangnaidar, Secretary of WSDC stressed the need for organizing a programme on Right to Food to impart rights and entitlement of the villagers.

Shri Saimon Singh spoke of the need to open a Legal Aid Clinic in the village to ensure that the villagers’ rights under social welfare schemes.

Shri Babloo Loitongbam emphasized the need to grown beyond the tribes and become citizen, the demand right and perform duties and to collectively fight to achieve the human rights for all. Khulakpa of Koibu Khulen expressed about the urgent need to have a food bank in Chandel District so that their entitlements under National Food Security Act is distributed in time.

A short film titled: Chakaogi Wathok, which is based on Right to Food, was also screened in order to spread awareness on National Food Security Act, 2013.
