Babelised State BJP
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: June 28, 2014 -
All of us may be quite familiar with the Biblical story about the construction of the Tower of Babel.
In their pride and overzealousness, people of Babel, who till then understood and spoke one common language among themselves and were capable of accomplishing anything they wanted if they put their strength and acts together, decided to build a city with a Tower that would reach up to the heaven to match with the glory of God.
When God came to know their intention, He made them to speak different languages so they would not understand each other.
By doing this, God not only thwarted plans of the overzealous people of Babel to build the tower but also forced them to scattered around everywhere as they no longer understand each other.
The lesson of the story is how the pride of man leads to his own downfall. Well, this is not a Bible or Catechism class.
We are just trying to allude to the impression that some Babel-like leaders in the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have created in the mind of the people of Manipur.
Regardless of what the party spokesperson and other party leaders may have said or claimed to any hint of a leadership crisis within the party unit, which is still very far off from the mark of regaining its status even as an opposition party in the State Assembly, it is interesting to know that lately different groups of State Unit BJP leaders have been going to the National capital one after the other to meet various Central leaders since the BJP-led NDA Government was sworn in.
Highlighting almost the same issues afflicting Manipur today, these different groups of State Unit BJP leaders drafted their own signed representations for submission to the Central leaders; they clicked photographs with so and so Union Ministers they met and returned home to convene press conferences or issue press statement to convey about their meetings with the Central BJP leaders and what assurances these Central leaders have given to them.
If the president of the State Unit party had convened a press meet in connection with his visit to New Delhi; one of the general secretaries of the party would unfailingly come out with a press statement, also, on his visit and meeting with the Union Ministers, a day later.
The following day, another group of party leaders may come up with a report on the similar visit and meetings with the Central BJP leaders and Ministers they had.
But in all these press conferences or press statements, what they are saying is the same thing, that they have taken up various issues related to the development of Manipur and the Union Ministers they met have given the assurances of doing the needful.
The question that we would like to raise here is, if they are really concerned about the problems and issues confronting the State then, why belittle them by submitting different representations without or without the approval of the party leadership?
Of course, there is no hard and fast rule which says that different representations from the same party unit could not be submitted.
But running up and down between Imphal and Delhi to meet Central leaders by different groups, State BJP leaders have only shown themselves as no better than Babels who could not speak and understand each other though live within the same house or city.
This is really shameful.
So, what could we expect from such overzealous leaders? Nothing, for sure.
