BNP calls Sylhet shutdown on Dec 1 over Tipaimukh dam
bdnews24.com | Sylhet, Nov 22
Local BNP has called a dawn-to-dusk general strike in Sylhet for Dec 1 to protest against the agreement signed in India over the Tipaimukh dam and the government 'keeping aloof' over the issue.
The decision to enforce the shutdown as part of a seven-day programme came from a meeting of the city and district BNP leaders at Agra Community Center around 12:30pm on Tuesday, BNP central organising secretary M Ilias Ali told reporters.
The Indian state of Manipur has secretly struck an investment deal with a number of state-run organisations to set up the controversial hydroelectric power plant and the Tipaimukh dam on the Borak River.
