In a move to create awareness in controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS in Manipur, bands such as Phynyx (Imphal), Soulmate (Shillong) and Viegas (Mumbai) will be performing in Imphal on the theme, "For the love of music and life, avoid drugs and unprotected sex" at YAC Ground, Yaiskul in Imphal on October 21 at 5 pm.
The event will be managed by River Boat.
Announcing this in a press conference held at Manipuur Press Club here today, Len Gangte, vocalist of the band Phynyx said the vision of the event is to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS among the youth through the medium of music and to promote the message of prevention as it is one of its kind to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS and added that Manipur Aids Control Society (MACS) during the concert will also organise an awareness programme where eminent resource persons from the society will speak on the subject matter.
Keeping high views on the show, Gangte exuded confidence that the event will serve to create a safe social environment for children and to youth providing them with support to break harmful habits and develop a responsible attitude towards their decisions and actions and inculcate a spirit of a healthy lifestyle.
" Musical traditions have the power to spread not only the needed information but also influence social behavior and it also presents an inspiring analysis of hope and healing.
Manipur, by virtue of its geographical and political position at the tri-junction of drugs, HIV/AIDS and conflict, is in a vulnerable situation.
It calls for a great awakening especially the youth. Music, perhaps is the best medium to heal ", said, Len Gangte.
