Atrial Flutter treated with Radio Frequency Ablation

Happy patient Mr. Rochullova with Dr. L. Shyamkishore Singh, Chief Cardiologist of SKY Hospital at the time of discharge)
For the first time in Manipur, Atrial Flutter, a well-known cause of palpitation, has been permanently cured by a highly sophisticated and specialized procedure called Electrophysiological Study (EPS) and Radio Frequency Ablation (RF Ablation).
Mr. Rochullova, 42 years/male, a resident of Aizawl, Mizoram with history of dilated cardiomyopathy was admitted at SKY Hospital on 15th January, 2020 as an emergency with acute exacerbation of his heart failure due to rapid palpitation caused by Atrial Flutter (Fig.1, ECG showing Flutter waves).
Traditionally, such Atrial Flutter is treated with drug therapy, which either suppresses the heart rate or reverts it to sinus rhythm with normal heart rate. He was initially treated for his heart failure with rate control of Atrial Flutter.
The drug therapy regime usually requires taking drug for life. Even on medication, Atrial Flutter can come back anytime. Recently developed technology EPS can effectively conducts a “mapping” of the abnormal tissue which procedures the Flutter (palpitation).
Once the source inside the heart is identified electric current produced by the Radio frequency which is generated by machine located outside the body, will ablate (destroy) the source of the Flutter (palpitation) located inside the heart by using electrodes (electric cable/wire) which precisely carries the current from outside the body to inside the heart and permanently ablate (destroy) the abnormal heart tissue causing “permanent cure” of the Atrial Flutter.
Mr. Rochullova subsequently underwent the EPS & RF Ablation on 6th February, 2020. The Atrial Flutter was reverted to sinus rhythm (normal heart rhythm) (Fig.2, ECG showing normal rhythm) immediately after the successful RF Ablation therapy.
His poor heart function with LVEF of 22.1% (normal range 55 – 80%) also improved to 40.4% immediately after the successful RF Ablation of the Flutter. Patient started eating and drinking 2 hours after the procedure.
He started mobilising the next day and was discharged on 10th February, 2020. Moreover, the patient does not have to take any drug for the Flutter anymore.
RF Ablation is a miracle in modern medicine for the treatment of various palpitations, namely PSVT (Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia, V.T. (Ventricular Tachycardia), Atrial Flutter.
SKY Hospital provides RF Ablation to the needy patients on the regular basis.
