Whether a glass is half filled or half empty, depends on how you look at situations or circumstances with what attitude. The only ingredient that makes or unmakes a man or which makes one a winner or a loser is the attitude one bears.
In my 15 odd years of stay in Sikkim I have never been privileged to watch a teamwork and the determination with which a team could lead itself to victory like the one I recently witnessed in a football match between BSF and Tolygang played at Baichung Stadium during the Governors Gold Cup 2002.I was just trying to analyze what were the factors that led a team to win which was loosing by 1-4 till the last 15 minutes of the game and vice versa. How is this match relevant to today's youth in real time? With the increasing competition and dearth of opportunities it is all the more important that one adopts more competitive and right attitude to achieve effective result in life. Once ones goal is set , it is important that the target is hit at .For reaching higher platforms in life it is important to make life a series of winning situations. I was really appalled by the fact that the enthusiasm and the drive with which the BSF team started the match did not dwindle one a bit even at that stage when they were losing by 1-4 and there were only 15 minutes left for the game to be over.
On the other hand the Tolygang teams overconfidence was very obvious that they started playing selfish game and the coordination with which they started were suddenly gone…. before the game is over and their position as winner was finalized. You never lose till the time you give up trying. However the end result was beyond expectation. Yes whenever you do anything with the right attitude the resultant impact is always 100%. Whether it is a football match or running an organization, teamwork with right attitude will lead us to victory and we all know winner is the king (Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander).
Till the last 15 minutes Tolygang was winning by 4-1 but at the end of the game BSF came out victories with 7-5 in a penalty kick out. What turned the whole game? Have you ever been able to turn situations like this…a losing situation to a winning situation. If yes I am sure you have got the right attitude. I saw very clearly it was nothing but teamwork plus attitude that made BSF team the winner ultimately. They never gave up till the end. The same enthusiasm remained till the end. They had faith in themselves and their teammates. They kept shooting at the target and ultimately hit the target. On the other hand why did Tolygang lose? They became too confident of themselves and took the opponent for granted. The best players were replaced. In the process they lost team work, coordination, attitude and of course the game.
In the last 15 minute of the game BSF scored another 3 goals and when the whistle blew it was 4-4. All spectators were thrilled to such an exciting game of turn around. Everyone said "paisa husool"hua. The Tolygang team was shocked and lost balance. Another important thing in life is that one should not lose ones balance in times of crisis. Rather that is the most crucial time to maintain one's balance. As we all know times of crisis will not stay forever as all moments passes away whether it is good or bad. Did some one say "Tough times never last but tough people do."
There were so much confusion and indecisiveness among the teammates of Tolygang at this juncture. Throwing blames on each other , the teams focus shifted completely from winning the game to defending ones own position and in the process the teamwork went for a toss. On mutual agreement of the teams it was decided to let the game go on with extra time. However no teams scored any goal and the game still remained draw. So a penalty kick out was unavoidable. I could see determination to win in the eyes of the players of the BSF team and the ongoing disagreements on issues whatever amongst the players of Tolygang and their Coach.. So it was quite clear to my mind if the game follows the natural law of attitude then BSF surely would be the winners. Two of the shooters of Tolygang directly kicked the ball to the hands of the BSF goalkeeper and they lost the game so ultimately the team with the right attitude won as predetermined.
Supporters of BSF Team were thrilled and the supporters of Tolygang team were highly upset. But did our young spectators who all are the builders of the society analyze and try to understand why the game took the shape it took? One very good lesson our young spectators in life should learn from this games is that to get anything done successfully it is important that one bears the right attitude in life. Intelligence and hard work matters but what adds the winning streak to any game of life is the attitude. If you have any doubts why don't you try the following sum:
ATTITUDE=1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100
