Environment Awareness Campaign, Shillong 9th December, 2009 is one of the initiatives of the North East Centre for Environmental Education and Research (NECEER), Imphal and North East Centre for Environmental Research and Development (NE-CERD), Guwahati to create awareness about the need of clean and healthy Shillong.
Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is a hill city, situated in the North Eastern part of India. Shillong is situated at an altitude of 1496 m above sea level. The scenic landscape, the people and the climate all combined together make Shillong, the best place in North East India.
Shillong has beautiful lakes and waterfalls, and is set in pine forests and green mountains. It is a popular hill-station which the British used to call the Scotland of the East. However, due to ever increasing population, pollution and urbanization, the city is now facing dramatic change in climate and environment.
