Animals don't rape. They do not murder. It is only men who rape and murder.
Man, as the believers would like to put it, is made in the image of God, however along the way it has become more and more obvious that the Devil made sure that all his evil attributes were somehow injected into the system of man.
This perhaps is the easiest premise to rest man's savage behaviour that comes to the fore with alarming regularity.
The brutal murder of a Class XI girl, after she was probably raped, is a chilling reminder of how deprave man can get and is a wake up call to society that living in a make believe world is well past its time.
It is a grim reminder to everyone, especially the parents and elders of society that no one, more so when it is a young girl or a young boy, is safe.
Crimes, killings, rapes, etc occur in other parts of the country and the world, but what makes such crimes send a chill down the spine with more bite is the profile of the killers or the suspects here.
At the moment the prime suspect in the murder of the young girl, whose body was found at Cheiraoching, is her boy friend. If the hunch of the police is correct, then here is a case of a man deemed close to the victim turning out to be her murderer.
A perfectly normal looking, average young man under whose facade lurks a murderer !
So far there seems to be no concrete motive for the brutal murder of the young girl and this is what makes the case all that more worrying. A murder without apparent motive says something very significant about the cold bloodedness of the murderer.
The little bit of the girl's profile that is available should be more than enough to indicate that the prime suspect in her murder could not have been a well known, hardened criminal.
Moreover it is much more likely that her killer would be somewhere in her age range.
This means, there are 20,21 or at the most 25 years old potential murderers walking around freely amongst the people, without raising any suspicion. This is what poses the greatest threat to the safety and security of young people, especially young girls.
There is something alarming about child soldiers and a study of conflict areas where children have been inducted as soldiers, will tell of the extraordinary damages they may cause, for it is extremely more effective to brain wash a young child than a mature adult.
The same may be said about a young murderer, who can easily be swayed by psychopathic tendencies.
Since no one is born a killer or a murderer, it may be assumed that young people like the boy friend of the murdered girl are continuously being influenced, mentally and morally, by the forces of negative thoughts which are being given birth each waking minute by the interplay of different factors that make up the great human society in this part of the world.
This is not to dilute the gravity of the dastardly crime. This is not to absolve the killer in any manner.
The condemnations that have come pouring in gives that little bit of hope that maybe not everything is lost. The speed with which Lamphel police moved to get its act together is noteworthy.
Justice should be delivered and it should appear that it has been delivered too for this is the only way in which the soul of the little girl will be put to rest.
Even as the formal, justice mechanism is put in place, it is equally important for the adults of society to look inwards and study how perfectly normal youths, the average Joey can be such potential killers.
Can society feel completely free of any guilt for giving birth to such potential criminals ?
Or do these attributes of potential killers and rapists lurk deep in the recess of every young man and woman ?
Think. What does it say about a society when a young man does not hesitate to pull out a gun and shoot someone to death on an issue as trivial as the right of way ?
Why is it that the profile of ruthless killers and rapists seem to be getting younger with the passage of time ?
Something, somewhere is terribly wrong and while the psychologists, the psychiatrists, the social scientists, the scientists and criminologists should take it upon themselves to study the profile pattern of killers and murderers and the reason thereof, it is also time for the elders and parents to start working on moulding the character of their children from Day 1.
Today it is Vasmi Khaleng. Yesterday it was that kid. Tomorrow it could be anyone's kid.
Our prayers are with the parents of Vasmi Khaleng.
