An evening of extreme shame ! Moronic behaviour
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: April 20 2019 -
An evening of shame.
This should about sum up the confrontation between two leaders of the BJP and the Congress during a debate on a local TV channel and the fisticuffs that ensued between workers of the two political parties outside the said TV studio.
In this age of social media where everything is faster than the two minute noodles, no sooner had information of the confrontation between the two political personalities reached the office of the media houses in Imphal the confrontation between workers of the two political parties had made its way to the social media sites and in no time, the ugly fall out was in the possession of anyone who has a smart phone with an internet connection.
Infamy at its lowest.
Interesting to note too that the seeds of the confrontation between the two personalities can be traced to an earlier incident at another local TV channel studio when they nearly came to blows !
So in essence it meant that what happened on April 18 can be traced back to what happened some time earlier.
The only difference being that the venue of the confrontation had moved from BT Road to Keishampat.
Exchange of gutter language and from reports that have come in, it seems that it took off from where it was left at the office of a TV channel at BT Road with the BJP spokesperson reportedly saying, ‘Khupakna Thaora‘ (I will slap you) to the Congress spokesperson who took it from there and asked, ‘What if I were to land a punch on your bald head’ (Nakok Atangbaduda Khutumna Thaora) at the Keishampat office of yet another TV channel.
Gutter language fit for a B Grade Bollywood buffoonery which passes off as comedy, only that this was not a movie that was being filmed but a real life event involving two well known political figures, one a veteran political leader and the other a former bureaucrat.
A clear reflection of a mindset that in politics there is nothing wrong for political personalities to swoop down to the level of local thugs whose only claim to fame is to use gutter language and throw their weight around.
Immediate steps require that the two political parties, that is the BJP and the Congress, stop sending them to any debates covered by the local TV channels and that they are not given the permission to brief the media.
It will also help if the media in Manipur desist from covering any briefing by the said two political figures.
Let them know that they cannot get away with their antics, bordering on buffoonery.
Let the BJP and the Congress too express words of regret over the extremely distasteful behaviour of their two members.
The State at least needs that for what happened on April 18 in all its glory for all to see is something that will be hard to digest.
Time for all political parties and political figures to come to the point that they cannot hold public sensibilities to ransom with their antics that borders on the moronic.
