Air India threatens to stop NE services from Jan 1
Seven Sisters Post | Tezpur (Dec 30):
On the threshold of a New Year, the dream of many from the northeastern states to fly may come a cropper, quite literally. Following non-payment of funds by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Air India, one of the country’s premier airlines, has threatened to stop its operation from some airports in the Northeast like Tezpur, Lilabari and Shillong from January 1.
According to sources, the NEC has failed to pay over Rs100 crore due for the last two years to the country’s state-owned airlines. This has, in turn, forced Air India’s subsidiary Alliance Air not to renew lease of three turbo-prop ATR planes operating to these cities.
