A humble plea to stop communalizing issues
Rev S Prim Vaiphei *
While we are still in the midst of mourning the brutal death of two Meitei masons of Patsoi, another vengeful killing of a Kuki shaktiman driver aggravates our grief! These barbaric acts are deeply regretted.
What has really gone wrong with us that we have become so senseless and communal trying to communalise each and every issue.
Or for that matter is being armed synonymous with license to kill? Not just this time.
In the recent past we have incidents where some senseless youth shooting at a Laiharaoba celebration at Pallel.
Some houses belonging to Meitei community being burnt down at Gwaltabi so on and so forth. Whatever be the reason behind, killing of human at any rate can never justify any act.
It is really disturbing to watch the aftermath of these incidents in TV where angry mob took to vandalism. Most importantly, some churches destroyed.
What has church the highest place of worship for Christians to do with these killings?
Undoubtedly, we share the anger arid pain of the bereaved families.
However, as civilised citizens let us not take the law in our own hands and worsen the situation.
We have law and order to care of it. May we see to it that the responsible authorities are fair and efficient to punish the culprits with the highest penalty possible?
Delightfully, amidst this chaos there are stories of good Samaritans who bravely fought misguided youths who were all out to destroy and kill along NH37 in Langjing area.
One incident happened on the fateful noon of May 14th where some people in a Bolero MN04A 7803 who went to CRPF Camp for recruitment by SSB were pulled out of their vehicle and interrogated.
Their Bolero was hacked and burnt. The timely intervention of the Local elders and Meirapaibis stop them from being killed.
Hats off to the concerned golden hearted citizens whose bravery saved many lives. They then sent for Police commandos who escorted them back to Imphal.
Our humblest and earnest appeal to those in the hill districts not to retaliate and harm Meitei brethren who are in the hills.
And those in the valley to prohibit any criminal activities further.
Let us be wise enough not to allow ourselves to be manipulated by vested interest and not yield to false propaganda and rumours.
Communalising on any issue will not do any good to us and only harming ourselves.
