A Song For Irom Sharmila, the same against AFSPA (Video)
Youtube | Thomas Easaw | Dec 6, 2011
Thomas Easaw, musician, philosopher and author of the book 'Justice Theory and the Ten Amendments', released his new single "A Song for Irom Sharmila", on Irom Sharmila's completion of 11 years of fast against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
The song begins with a dig at present day social reformers for their hypocrisy of holding a democracy to ransom by conducting honey and lime satyagrahas. The song then goes on to apologize to Irom Sharmila for having made her fast for so long, for a rightful basic human right.
The song asks soul stirring questions like whether the 'AFSPA affected people' were not sons and daughters of Mother India and why they were being treated differently?
Easaw calls out to the government and to all Indians to give the 'AFSPA affected people' the chance to feel the pride and the joy of living life as an Indian -like the rest of us are enjoying.
While welcoming the government decision to repeal AFPSA, Easaw asks every citizen of this great and free democracy to hope and pray that this prick of conscience would eventually disappear and free us of our guilt of such an oppressive law.
