A Forgotten Lover
Pijush Kanti Deb *
Oh my departed dear,
I'm sorry for and ashamed of
my life
which is still alive
despite your selfish separation from me
as my half-composed epic is yet to be completed;
my song
that is still sung
in spite of your heartless absence in my tune
as the opera is still operative to my ears,
my dream
which is still dreamt
despite your shameless disappearance from my eyes
as the nights are still slumberous to my days to come,
my memory
that longs to forget you
in spite of your unabated knocking on it
as forgetfulness is a blessing to a forgotten lover.
