32 years on, Manipur’s anti-mega dam stir still alive & kicking

For 32 years, villages near Thoubal river in Manipur have been living a nightmare which is both unsettling and strangely moving — resistance against a mega-dam that threatens to uproot their existence.
The three-decade-long protest has seen many upheavals with the villagers eventually agreeing to part with their land, water and forest resources.
Approved in 1980, Mapithel Dam or Thoubal Multi-Purpose Project over Thoubal river has been a cause of constant worry for these villagers.
