1 killed in Dimapur; factional violence escalates

Fueling deep apprehensions of a resurgence of factional violence, the embers of which was stoked at Dimapur’s Naharbari area on December 19 and continued in Zunheboto on Deccember 22 and 23, the third casualty was claimed inside a Mela at Burma Camp, Dimapur Wednesday night.
According to sources, unidentified gunmen closed on one person and shot him on the head from close range, killing him on the spot. Police identified the deceased as one Visavo Chakhesang,son of Zholhou Chakhesang and reported to be the ‘Town Command’ of the GPRN/NSCN.
The attacker(s) appeared and shot him in the head while a fair (mela) was going on at Burma Camp at around 7 p.m., police sources said. Two empty cases and a live round of .9mm were recovered from the spot.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports reaching here said that there was firing near the highway towards Chumukedima area around 11 p.m. supposedly the repercussion of the killing at Burma camp.
