128th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Ho Chi Minh
Centre for Vietnam Studies in association with Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and Embassy of Socialist Republic of Vietnam organized a discussion on the life and contributions of Ho Chi Minh on his 128th Birth Anniversary. Guest of Honour of this occasion was Shri M.J. Akbar, Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India. He focused on colonization and partition processes in India and Vietnam, with special reference to Mahatma Gandhi and Ho Chi Minh.
The honoured Minister also explained that Freedom should not be restricted only to politics, instead it should be multifaceted, i.e., freedom should be freedom from hunger and freedom from any hopelessness. He also mentioned that the spirit of the Vietnamese revolution not only represented revolution of South East Asia but also a phenomenon what might be called as second revolution of America.
H. E. Ton Sinh Thanh, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in his Special Address highlighted the life and greatness of Ho Chi Minh as the legendary Freedom Fighter of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh, the great leader, has also been recognized as a significant cultural figure by UNESCO. His Excellency also talked about how the legendary hero left the country in the year 1911 to study the lives of workers and farmers all around the world.
Ho Chi Minh greatly honoured Mahatma Gandhi as a Spiritual leader of India. The friendship between Uncle Ho and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru strengthened the relationship between India and Vietnam, which can be felt till date.
The Session was presided over by Shri Shakti Sinha, Director, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. He stressed on how Ho Chi Minh remains as an iconic leader of Vietnam till date, who is celebrated worldwide. He also praised the Vietnamese people as determined and pragmatic.
Also on this occasion a book titled ““Ho Chi Minh: Through the Eyes of Indians” by Mr. Bijay Kumar Padhiari was released by H. E. Ton SinhThanh.
With the growing strategic comprehensive partnership between India and Vietnam, and given the latter’s strategically important location in the Indo-Pacific region, Vietnam had always been a major bilateral partner for India. It has also been a significant factor in Act East Policy, and our coordinating partner in ASEAN.
From the security perspective, India and Vietnam share concerns about the growing Chinese presence and its impact on their national security. Amidst all this, India is developing its defence and strategic relationship with Vietnam, which is further strengthened by the increased high-level bilateral visits, annual security dialogues, and military-to-military cooperation.
Therefore marking the growing closeness between these two Asian nations, the birth anniversary celebration of the Vietnamese legendary hero who was admired greatly by India and the world becomes noteworthy.
