CORE alarmed on violence against women

Imphal, February 10 2009: Expressing deep concern over the recent trends of violence against women in the State, Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) has observed that women face various forms of violence like domestic violence, torture by State forces and physical injury even to the extent of taking one's life which is against International laws, UDHR, CEDAW, etc.

In a statement, CORE observed that abduction and subsequent killing of ex-Pradhan of Uchiwa GP Basirjan Bibi (45) d/o Asuf Ali and sitting GP member Md Sanayaima alias Kiramuddin (42) as well as life attempt on Ayao Vasum alias Mingyola (42) should be condemned by one and all.

The organisation has also appealed to every section of the society to respect one another and maintain dignity of human existence and urged the Govt to book the culprits.
